Nesthy Petecio's mom keeps the faith as daughter fights in Tokyo

The parents of Nesthy Petecio held on to their faith as their Olympian daughter faced her battles in the women's boxing tournament of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

In an interview with Super Radyo DZBB's 'One on One: Walang Personalan,' Nesthy's mother Priscilla said she prayed to God to give her daughter the strength in her fights.

"I watched it," Priscilla said in Filipino, talking about Nesthy's quarterfinals match. "As a mom, of course I was nervous. But I prayed to God to give Nesthy the strength to fight inside the ring."

Before leaving for Japan, Priscilla said her message to Nesthy was also to pray and not lose hope.

"I told her to not lose confidence in herself when she fights. Always trust and pray to God to guide her and give her strength because that will be her weapon in her fights," she said.

Nesthy's father Teodoro, meanwhile, is simply proud of her daughter's achievement.

"I am happy, very happy," he said.

Teodoro, who during Nesthy's younger days would stop the Olympian from boxing, is now supportive of his daughter's career.

"If I were to decide, yes," said Teodoro when asked if he would allow Nesthy to continue boxing.

Nesthy's parents assured the boxer that her family will always be by her side in this journey.

As Priscilla said, "We're always here, us parents, her siblings, we support you. Always pray to God to guide you and give you strength."
