Nesthy Petecio to be the Philippines' flag bearer in Tokyo Olympics closing ceremony

Fresh from her silver medal finish, Nesthy Petecio is tipped to carry the Philippine flag come the closing ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics.

Mariano 'Nonong' Araneta, the country's chef de mission to Tokyo Games, said in an interview on Noli Eala's Power and Play radio show Saturday that Petecio will be the Philippines' flag bearer during the closing rites set on Sunday, August 8.

The ceremony is set to take place at the Olympic Stadium.

"The flag bearer is Nesthy and of course, the officials and some athletes will also be there [in the closing ceremony]," Araneta said in Filipino on Saturday.

Araneta added that unlike in the opening ceremony where only six officials and two flag bearers were allowed in the venue, the Tokyo organizers have  given additional passes in the closing festivities.

Athletes still in the Olympic village like boxers Irish Magno, Eumir Marcial and Carlo Paalam as well as golfers Yuka Saso and Bianca Pagdanganan are all tipped to join the delegates.

"We will be giving other athletes the chance to march because in the opening ceremony, the attendees were limited. But now, I think we got an additional 10 passes."

Judoka Kiyomi Watanabe and Marcial served as the country's female and male flag bearers during the opening last July 23.
