Filipino Jayson Mama falls short against Sunny Edwards, Donnie Nietes scores draw on Probellum: Revolution card in Dubai
Filipino boxer Jayson Mama fell short in his bid for the IBF flyweight title after surrendering a unanimous decision to champion Sunny Edwards on the Probellum: Revolution card held on Saturday, December 11, at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, UAE.
Edwards put in a dominant performance, taking the win on the judges’ scorecards, 117-110, 118-109, and 118-109.
Meanwhile, Donnie Nietes battled Norbelto Jimenez of the Dominican Republic to a split decision draw in a fight that was initially touted to be an eliminator for the WBA super flyweight title.
One judge scored the fight 96-94 for Nietes, one had it 96-94 for Jimenez, and the third judge saw it 95-95, leading to the draw.
The fight card was supposed to feature another Filipino, WBO bantamweight champion John Riel Casimero, but he was a late scratch after he was admitted to a hospital the day before the fight.
His challenger, Paul Butler, was then scheduled to face Joseph Agbeko in an interim title fight instead but that was also pulled from the card.
