Paul Butler outboxes Filipino Jonas Sultan in WBO interim title fight

Former IBF bantamweight world champion Paul Butler boxed for twelve rounds en route to defeating Jonas Sultan via unanimous decision to capture the WBO interim bantamweight title this Saturday at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.

Butler, 33, utilized his counter-punches and boxed in circles against Sultan all night. The Filipino threw with bad intentions but was never able to cut the ring effectively and thus was not able to put the hometown favorite in serious trouble.

All three judges saw the fight for Butler after twelve rounds of action, improving his record to 34-2 with 15 knockouts while Sultan dropped to 18-6. The scorecards were 118-110, 117-111, and 116-112.

Sultan came in as a replacement for fellow Filipino John Riel Casimero, who was removed from the fight for a violation of the British Boxing Board of Control's medical guidelines.
