Nedal Hussein speaks up about referee Carlos Padilla's statement on helping Pacquiao in one of his fights

Former professional boxer Nedal Hussein of Australia on Wednesday spoke up about referee Carlos Padilla's statements where the latter revealed that he helped Manny Pacquiao in a fight back in 2000.

In a previous interview, the 83-year-old Padilla revealed that he gave Pacquiao some advantages in the said fight like slowing the count when the Filipino was down and when he declared a headbutt as a punch.

Pacquiao won in the said match via technical knockout after ten rounds. The fight was important as it would give Pacquiao a chance to fight for a world championship title.

In Maki Pulido's 24 Oras report on Wednesday, Hussein said he has no hard feelings towards Pacquiao, but is mad about the alleged cheating of Padilla.

If Padilla did not prolong the count, Hussein said, "I would've won because it would've been a knockout."

Hussein said Padilla should also be accountable for his actions.

"He should be held accountable. He shouldn't be in any Hall of Fame because he's not a credible referee. He's a cheat," he added.

For Filipino sports analyst Quinito Henson, the former senator would still win the said fight.

"Three judges had Pacquiao winning at the time of stoppage," Henson said. "At that point, even if it was stopped because of a cut due to a head butt, panalo pa rin si Manny because he was ahead in the judges' score cards. Either way, Manny deserved to win that fight."

Hussein's camp has already sent a request to the World Boxing Council to declare the said fight as a no-contest, meaning there should be no winner or loser in the said fight. The camp also wants to retract all recognitions given to Padilla, including being a part of the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame.

GMA Integrated News is trying to reach Padilla and Pacquiao's camp for their statements.
