Vincent Astrolabio to face Jason Moloney for the vacant WBO world bantamweight title
Hard-hitting bantamweight contender Vincent Astrolabio will finally get a crack at a world title when he takes on Jason Moloney for the vacant WBO world bantamweight title on May 13 at a yet-to-be-determined venue.
The news was first reported by Boxing Scene and was confirmed by GMA News Online.
Astrolabio, the no. 2 rated bantamweight by the WBO who holds a record of 18-3 with 13 knockouts, is coming off an impressive sixth-round knockout over Nikolai Potapov last December.
The 25-year-old from General Santos City, who is trained by Nonoy Neri of Team Pacquiao, entered the limelight when he pulled off a unanimous decision upset against former world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux in February last year.
Moloney (25-2, 19KOs), meanwhile, is rated as the no. 1 bantamweight in the world by the WBO. He is on a four-fight winning streak after getting knocked out in his world title attempt against Naoya Inoue in 2020.
