Naoya Inoue rises from the canvas to stop Nery in six

Boxing: Naoya Inoue vs. Luis Nery

Naoya Inoue had a taste of the canvas for the first time in his career before winning via stoppage to make a successful defense of his WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF world super bantamweight titles over Luis Nery this Monday at Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan.

Inoue came out swinging in the opening round to which Nery responded by throwing lunging shots of his own. Before the round ended, Nery landed a big left hand that sent Inoue crashing to the canvas.

Inoue recovered, scoring a knockdown with a left hook in round two before dropping Nery with the same punch in round 5. Sensing blood, Inoue went for the kill in the next stanza, stopping Nery for good with a right hand at the 1:22 mark of round 6.

The sixth-round knockout was Inoue's first defense of his undisputed super bantamweight title, improving his perfect record to 27-0 with 24 knockouts while Nery fell to 35-2 with 27 knockouts.

Last December, Inoue scored a 10-round knockout of Filipino Marlon Tapales to win two of his titles.
