Tank Davis knocks out Martin to defend title; Magsayo wins on prelims

Gervonta "Tank" Davis made a successful defense of his WBA world lightweight title following an eight-round knockout over Frank Martin on Sunday (Philippine time) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The previously unbeaten Martin boxed in the early going, landing clean shots as he moved around the ring. Davis eventually caught up, stalking his foe with hard shots from both hands to the head and body.

In Round 8, Davis caught Martin on the ropes where he landed a big uppercut followed by a left hand on top that sent the latter crashing to the canvas. Down and out, the referee halted the contest at the 1:29 mark of the stanza.

Earlier today, former world featherweight champion Mark Magsayo won the vacant WBA intercontinental super featherweight title with a unanimous decision nod over Eduardo Ramirez of Mexico.

Both fighters had highlights of their own throughout the contest, but it was Magsayo who landed the cleaner and harder shots en route to a victory after ten rounds of action.
