Suarez opponent Emmanuel Navarrete not fundamentally sound but a tireless workhorse, says boxing analyst

Veteran boxing analyst Atty Ed Tolentino believes that while WBO world super featherweight champion Emmanuel Navarrete may have glaring flaws all over his game, beating him is another conversation.

Navarrete is scheduled to defend his world title against Filipino Olympian Charly Suarez on Sunday, May 11, at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, USA.

"His style does not follow the basics of boxing. He has no footwork, no balance, and his punches are very wide," Tolentino said in an episode of Sparring Sessions LIVE.

"But the thing is, he gets away with it. Why? Because number one, his durability. Number two, his punch output."

Though seemingly flawed, Navarrete, 39-2-1 with 32 knockouts, nevertheless won world titles across three weight classes including wins over Filipino boxers.

According to Tolentino, reading Navarrete is easy until his opponent gets atop the ring with him.

"He overwhelms you, he does not knock you out with one punch. What he does is that he takes you out bit by bit," Tolentino stated.
