Navarrete vs. Suarez result overturned to no contest

The controversial outcome of Emanuel Navarrete versus Charly Suarez has been overturned to a no contest by the California State Athletic Commission.

Navarrete, the reigning WBO world super featherweight champion, escaped with a technical decision over Suarez last month in California when a cut he suffered was ruled as coming from a headbutt.

Replays of the sequence, however, showed that Navarrete took a cut on top of his left following a clean punch, which should have earned Suarez a technical knockout victory.

The California State Athletic Commission voted unanimously to overturn the result and the WBO has ordered a rematch between the two.

The overturning of the result also means that the 36-year-old Suarez will get to keep his perfect record of 18-0 with 10 knockouts.
