MP Promotions unveils stacked lineup for Thrilla anniversary
Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions has unveiled a stacked lineup for the 50th anniversary of the Thrilla in Manila on October 29 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Headlining the historic card is a world title clash between defending WBC minimumweight champion Melvin Jerusalem and Siyakholwa Kuse.
In the co-main event, former world featherweight champion Mark Magsayo will take on Michael Magnesi in a super featherweight title eliminator.
Also fighting on the undercard are Ali’s grandson, Nico Ali Walsh, unbeaten prospects Carl Jammes Martin and Weljon Mindoro, and Filipino Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial, among many others.
The original Thrilla in Manila took place in 1975, when Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier waged one of boxing’s most legendary battles under the watch of Filipino referee Carlos Padilla, during the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
Now, fifty years later, his son, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., is set to preside over the golden anniversary celebration of the iconic bout.
Yesterday, Pacquiao and his team visited Malacañang, where the administration pledged “all-out” support for the commemorative event.
