Floyd Mayweather denies 'broke' rumors following Tyson fight announcement
Retired five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has shot down speculation that his upcoming exhibition with Mike Tyson is motivated by financial troubles.
Earlier today, Mayweather announced that he will face the former heavyweight king next year at a yet-to-be-announced venue. The announcement, however, sparked assumptions among some fans that Mayweather had run out of money eight years into retirement.
In his Instagram story, however, Mayweather showed off large stacks of cash.
“I’m pretty sure I’d be upset too if I was somebody else. I’d be mad at Mayweather, too. How the f— for 30 years you can keep getting money like this,” Mayweather said on the video.
“I would be mad too, I would be hating on Mayweather too. Continue to hate, you know people only talk about winners, and I’m a winner, so continue to talk.”
Mayweather last fought in 2017 when he stopped Conor McGregor to retire undefeated at 50-0 with 27 knockouts. He has since figured in exhibition bouts worldwide.
Tyson, meanwhile, is now 59. He returned to boxing last November after 19 years away, dropping a decision to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in an eight-round contest.
