Terence Crawford retires, exits boxing unbeaten at 42-0

Fresh off the biggest win of his career, American superstar Terence “Bud” Crawford has announced his retirement from professional boxing.

Believing he has “nothing else left to prove,” Crawford revealed the decision through a post on social media.

“I gave this sport everything I had. I faced the best, moved through weight classes, and made history on my own terms. 42-0. 3x undisputed. Five-division world champion. No shortcuts. No excuses,” Crawford wrote.

Crawford, 38, retires with an immaculate 42-0 professional record. Widely regarded as one of the most technically proficient fighters of his generation, his crowning moment came last September when he outclassed Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to earn a unanimous decision win in their blockbuster superfight.

However, the World Boxing Council (WBC) stripped Crawford of the super middleweight title he won from Alvarez just two weeks ago after he failed to pay the organization’s sanctioning fees.

“Very unfortunately, the WBC did not receive an acknowledgment of receipt nor any response to any of those communications,” the WBC said in a statement. “The WBC had no choice but to act.”

An Omaha, Nebraska native, Crawford won world titles across multiple divisions and made history as the first boxer to become undisputed champion in three weight classes.
