Pacquiao insists Mayweather rematch is 'real fight,' set to push through
Eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao stood firm in his claim that his upcoming rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not only a “real fight,” but is also guaranteed to push through.
While Mayweather has downplayed the status of the highly anticipated bout, expected to stream on Netflix, Pacquiao pushed back and turned the pressure on his longtime rival.
“We both signed the contract na real fight,” the Filipino boxing icon told reporters during the 3rd Pacquiao-Elorde Awards Night on Thursday.
“There’s no reason na hindi matuloy 'yung fight… unless kung ‘di talaga siya lalaban.”
(There’s no reason the fight won’t push through—unless he refuses to fight.)
The dispute stems from Mayweather’s recent remarks suggesting the bout is only for entertainment purposes.
For his part, Pacquiao dismissed rumors surrounding the situation, describing the remaining issues as minor logistical concerns.
“Kaunti na lang yon, we’re fixing something na maliit na bagay na lang,” said Pacquiao, who also confirmed that the venue will no longer be The Sphere in Las Vegas.
(There are only a few things left, we’re just fixing minor details.)
While the behind-the-scenes battle continues, Pacquiao revealed that the early stages of his training camp have already begun, maintaining a veteran-friendly pace.
“Light lang muna kasi malayo pa naman. Kung September ang fight, eh di apat na buwan pa.”
(We’re just taking it light for now since the fight is still far off. If it’s in September, then there are still four months to go.)
