Rolando Dy KOs Paulie Malignaggi, retains BKB super welterweight title
Filipino bareknuckle boxing champion Rolando Dy knocked out Paulie Malignaggi to retain his BKB super welterweight title at BKB 54: Mayhem in Manchester on Sunday (Philippine time) at the AO Arena in Manchester, England.
Dy needed just two rounds to dispatch the former two-division world boxing champion.
Just five seconds into the second round, Dy connected with a crushing left hook-right straight combination that sent Malignaggi crashing to the canvas.
Although the Italian-American veteran managed to beat the count, Dy immediately swarmed him with a follow-up barrage. This time, Malignaggi stayed down as the referee completed the count.
The emphatic victory improved Dy’s bareknuckle boxing record to 6-1 with five knockouts.
Dy, the son of Filipino boxing legend Rolando Navarrete, also secured the first successful defense of the title he captured last December.
