De La Salle finds '3' mark, buries FEU for 1st win

MANILA, Philippines – JV Casio found his mark from three-point land. Better for La Salle, the rest of his teammates found theirs too. Casio scored 29 points and made all his three three-point attempts to lead the Green Archers to a 73-62 victory over the Far Eastern University Tamaraws in the men’s basketball tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City. And it wasn't just the seemingly automatic Casio. La Salle, which won its first game after dropping the opener to Ateneo, could barely miss from behind the arc, making seven of its first eight three-point tries in the second half where the Archers pulled away. All in all, La Salle was eight-of-18 from behind the arc, with four other Archers besides Casio hitting at least one long ball. Behind 43-39 with 4:04 left in the third, the Archers started to hit their mark. Simon Atkins, Casio, Rico Maierhofer and Peejay Barua each converted from downtown in that order to pull abreast 50-47 at the end of the third quarter. Tied at 54 with less than seven minutes in the fourth, Casio and Bader Malabes knocked down a triple each to put La Salle in front 60-54. The Archers never relinquished the lead since. Maierhofer chipped in 11 points and 17 rebounds for La Salle. The loss pulled down FEU to a 1-1 mark with three other teams including La Salle. - Dominic Menor
