RP shooter Ang 30th in first day of preliminaries

MANILA, Philippines – Shooter Eric Ang opened the Philippine campaign in the Beijing Olympics placing 30th in the first day of preliminaries Saturday of the men’s trap at the Beijing Shooting Range Clay Target Field. Ang needs to score a perfect 50 in the last two rounds that will be played Sunday and hope his opponent’s would encounter problems with their equipment in order to make it into the Top Six that will advance into the medal round. Czech Republic’s David Kostelcky and Italy’s Giovanni Pellielo ended up tied with a 73 while five other shooters scored a 72 to place second. Two other shooters are tied with a 71. Ang is joined by China’s Li Yajun, American Bret Erickson, Graeme Ede of New Zealand and France’s Stephane Clamens with a 65. To make it to the final round in shooting, participants need to get the most hits out of 125 targets spread over five rounds in two days. Using a Beretta DT 10, Ang made it to the Olympics as a wild-card bet after finishing 24th in a field of 92 with a score of 113 points in a special Olympic qualifying tournament. He was the lone shooter from the Southeast Asian region to make it to the top 25. – GMANews.TV
