SHENYANG, China â Germany defender Linda Bresonik is out of the Olympics after exams showed she tore an ankle ligament in the team's quarterfinal victory over Norway. The 24-year-old Bresonik got hurt on a play by herself in the second half of Germany's 2-0 extra-time win Friday. She twisted her ankle after coming down from a header near the sidelines in the 70th minute. She had to be carried off the field on a stretcher and was later taken to a hospital to have the extent of the injury determined. Germany press officer Niels Barnhofer told The Associated Press on Saturday that exams showed she sustained a torn ligament and will not be able to recover to play in the rest of women's football tournament. Germany, the defending Women's World Cup champion, will play Brazil on Monday in Shanghai. The Germans have never reached the Olympic final. â AP
