FEU women, UST men sweep UAAP beach-volley tourney en route to crown

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University swept the seven-game eliminations of the women’s beach-volleyball tournament recently to win the UAAP championship for a second straight year. Anna Abanto, voted the tournament’s MVP, and Marigail Tolentino won 21-8, 21-10 over the Ateneo pair of Asia Urquico and Jessica Morado to take the title outright at the University of the East sand courts in Caloocan. The University of Santo Tomas men’s team also secured the championship via sweep after Jayson Ramos and MVP James Pecana downed UE’s Alvin Padilla and Mark Dalag 21-13, 21-16. FEU, the 2007 champions, placed second, while Adamson ranked third. Completing the women’s top three are UE (second) and UST (third). Melissa Gohing of De La Salle and Ramond Lucindo of University of the Philippines were named Rookies of the Year in their respective women’s and men’s categories. – GMANews.TV
