RP dragon-boat rowers cop bronze in Asian Beach Games

MANILA, Philippines - The country entered the medal list early in the inaugural Asian Beach Games after the RP men's dragon-boat team finished third on Sunday in Bali, Indonesia. The Filipinos were even in the thick of the fight for the gold medal but the Indonesians overtook them in the last 400 meters as the hosts finished the 1,000m event in four minutes and 29.24 seconds. Myanmar, which bagged the silver, clocked 4:34.29, while the Philippines timed 4:42.91. RP coach Nestor Ilagan expressed optimism in the Filipinos' campaign. "We have a good chance in the 500m race. But we still have to be wary because China may [come up with some surprises]," Ilagan said. The country will see action in the 500m on Monday and the 250m Tuesday. In the men's form event in pencak silat, Christopher Breguera placed fourth, behind Indonesia, Vietnam and Brunei. - GMANews.TV
