MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine dragon-boat team copped a third straight bronze medal after it placed third in the 250m event in the inaugural Asian Beach Games Tuesday in Bali, Indonesia. The Filipino rowers, who were reportedly unsure whether they would make it to the Games because of the lack of funds, timed 53.79 seconds and was behind champion Myanmar (50.97 seconds) and Indonesia (51.74). The Nationals actually hold the world record in the event when they clocked 41.91 seconds in the World Championships last year in Sydney, but the water level in Indonesia was far shorter at 1.7m than Australia's 3.0m. In women's shortboard surfing, Marianita Alcala of Siargao also secured the bronze after she registered 13.30 points in the repechage semis. Akiko Kiyonaga of Japan and Yasniar Gea of Indonesia ranked first and second, respectively. - GMANews.TV
