Pinoy archers bag 4 golds in SE Asian championship
MANILA, Philippines â Earl Benjamin Yap led the country's gold harvest in the Southeast Asian Archery Championship Thursday at the Ateneo field in Quezon City. Coming off a silver medal in the Asian Grand Prix earlier this week, Yap won 117-112 against Yu Min Swe of Myanmar to rule the men's compound, one of four gold medals the Nationals secured. RP teammate Ian Wayne Larsen defeated Trong Ken Dao of Vietnam 110-100 to take the recurve crown in another men's event. In the women's division, Rachelle Cabral beat Erwina Safitri of Indonesia 105-100 to win in recurve, while Jennifer Chan won in compound. Chan took the gold in the qualifying round and looked to grab a second mint when she reached the final. But the Sydney Olympics veteran failed to hit the bullseye in the shootoff to lose to Myanmar. Also winning medals for the host were Jorge Vargas and Enrique Cojuangco who finished second and third, respectively, in the qualification round in men's compound. Rookie Kristina Bismark showed bagged two bronze medals in women's compound, finishing third in the qualifying and Olympic rounds. - GMANews.TV
