Shakey’s V-League: San Sebastian sweeps UST, wins first crown
MANILA, Philippines â San Sebastian College swept its way to the Shakeyâs V-League title Second Conference title via a hard-earned 16-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 decision against University of Santo Tomas. The Lady Stags, after dropping the first set, went to work in the last three sets to close out the best-of-three title showdown at 2-0 Sunday at The Arena in San Juan City. San Sebastian scored the five of the last six points in the fourth set to earn the much coveted title that eluded them the last few years. "I'm very happy. At least in my fourth try, I finally win it," said Lady Stags coach Roger Gorayeb, who already accumulated 20 titles in the NCAA. Gorayeb's wards won Game 1, 25-21, 25-19, 26-24, last Friday. Suzanne Roces led the Lady Stagsâ onslaught as SSCâs guest player posted 19 kills, two blocks and a service ace to help the Recto-based spikers finish the match in 96 minutes. Roces eventually finished with 22 points and was chosen as the finals most valuable player. "I'm speechless," said the 23-year-old Roces."This is my first time to win an MVP. I'm so happy and I share the award with coach Roger (Gorayeb) and my teammates for their trust." â GMANews.TV
