FEU women begin UAAP volleyball title defense vs UST

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University (FEU) opens its title defense against University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 71 women’s volleyball tournament Saturday at the FEU gym. The match is set at 4pm with the Lady Tamaraws parading crowd favorite Rachel Daquis, Shaira Gonzalez and Maica Morada. The trio will pick up the slack left by Season 70 most valuable player (MVP) Wendyanne Semana and Anna Abanto. The Tigresses will miss the power-hitting duo of Mary Jean Balse and Venus Bernal, who have graduated, but still have Aiza Mazo, Vida Gutierrez and Berice Co to work with rookies Judy Ann Caballejo and Maika Ortiz. The Lady Tamaraws entered the Season 70 finals after defeating the Tigresses in the final-four. National University and University of the East opens the women’s volleyball action at 2.m right after the opening ceremonies at 12 noon. On Sunday, University of the Philippines takes on De La Salle at 2pm while last season’s runner-up Adamson battles Ateneo at 4 p.m. In the men’s division, De La Salle opens its season against NU at 8am while Ateneo faces UE at 10am in the second game. Defending men’s champion UST battles Adamson at 11am while last year’s second placer FEU plays UP at 9am. Both games will be played Sunday. – GMANews.TV
