UAAP men’s volleyball offensive leaders are from bottom teams
MANILA, Philippines â The top two spikers in terms of offense in season 71 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) came from teams that occupy the bottom half in the eight-team field. National Universityâs Jan Jasper Adorador and Dominic Estrada of the University of the East finished first and second in the offensive department after five games in the double elimination tournament. Adorador was the most offensive minded player after five games amassing 101 points behind 88 spikes, six blocks and seven aces based on statistics released by TMX Sports. But his individual exploits failed to help the Bulldogsâ cause as the Sampaloc-based squad remains at the cellar with a 0-5 mark. Estrada also failed to lead his team this season despite collecting 87 points with 71 kills, 13 blocks and three aces. The Red Warriors is just one game ahead of the Bulldogs with a 1-4 card. Chris Macasaet of La Salle and, Ateneo teammates Andre Pareja and Timothy Sto. Tomas round up the top five. Macasaet, whoâs Green Archers are tied with the Adamson Falcons and the University of the Philippines Maroons at third place with 3-2 slates, made 70 spikes, 10 blocks and an ace for 81 points. Pareja and Sto. Tomas netted 77 points each with the former having 62 spikes, 12 blocks and three aces while the latter tallied 57 spikes, 17 blocks and three aces for the second-running Blue Eagles (4-1). Others in the Top 10 are John Paul Torres (75) of the league-leading and undefeated University of Santos Tomas (5-0), Adamsonâs Froilan Pantone (74), Jan Berlin Paglinawan (73) of Far Eastern University, Nino Jeruz (72) of Adamson and Ateneoâs Duane Teves (61). â GMANews.TV
