UAAP volleyball: UST seals third spot in women’s semis

MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) snagged the No. 3 seeding in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s volleyball tournament semifinal round after beating Adamson. The Tigresses scored a 25-21, 25-21, 25-13 win over the Lady Falcons on Wednesday in the final elimination round match at The Arena in San Juan City. UST’s win set them up with a semifinal match-up with second-ranked Far Eastern University on Sunday. The Lady Falcons, on the other hand, slid to fourth in the Final Four where they will face top-ranked La Salle on Saturday at The Arena. The Lady Archers and the Lady Tamaraws own twice-to-beat advantages against their semis opponents. Bernice Abigail Co had 16 points while Aiza Maizo added 14, eight of which came on attacks and four on blocks, during the Tigresses’ playoff match against the Lady Falcons. Angela Benting scored 11 points while Rissa Jane Laguilles had 10 for Adamson. The Lady Archers secured the top spot after beating FEU in four sets last Sunday to end the elimination round with a 13-1 record.
