MANILA, Philippines âMariano âNitoy" Tamayo officially became the new president of the Philippine Bowling Congress (PBC) after the groupâs election on Sunday. The election was attended by 98 individuals representing different bowling clubs, including outgoing president Steve Hontiveros, and witnessed by observers from the Philippine Olympic Committee. Originally, the PBC was supposed to elect its officials last January 18 but the group was forced to reset it after the POC declared it would not recognize the result pending review of the list of memberships, the Constitution and By Laws and PBCâs SEC Registration. Instead, the PBC General Assembly who gathered last January 18 declared all positions vacant and installed interim officials led by Tamayo. âWe have been talking with the POC and weâve submitted our papers and they (POC) seemed to have found the documents in order. The POC representatives in this proceedings showed they have given their blessings," Tamayo said. Special assistant to the POC president Go Teng Kok, who observed elections along with POC first vice president Mario Tanchangco, said he saw nothing wrong or irregular about the proceedings. Tamayo was elected unopposed after his supposed rival, Philip Rillorta, withdrew his candidacy. Jaime Dychaoco, Olivia âBong" Coo and Ferdie Magalino, who were all part of the interim board, were officially voted EVP, secretary-general and treasurer, respectively, by acclamation. Hontiveros, who was presented a plaque of appreciation for serving bowling since 1986, expressed belief that the association is in good hands with Tamayo, whose family owns University of Perpetual Help. Before accepting his new post, Tamayo also served as president the Bowling Association of Las Pinas. Hontiveros will continue to help PBC as Tamayo plans to form a Council of Past Presidents who will help guide the association. However, Hontiveros, who also sit as POC secretary-general, will no longer be PBCâs representative in the POC General Assembly as the board designated Tamayo and Coo to attend all POC affairs. Tamayo said the new leadership thrust is to strengthen the development of junior bowlers. GMANews.Tv
