UAAP: Ateneo juniors win football title

MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo defeated Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Educational Foundation, 2-0, over the weekend in the finals of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) juniors football tournament at the Ateneo field. It was the Blue Eaglets’ first juniors title in football after the UAAP introduced it as a demonstration sport last year. Michael Mabanag clinched the title for the Eaglets with goals in the 46th and 80th minute. The Blue Eaglets took the twice-to-beat edge in the elimination round with 15 points (5-1 win-loss card). The Baby Tamaraws set up a finals date with the Blue Eaglets after securing second spot with 12 points (4-2 win-loss card). De La Salle-Zobel won the first edition of the tournament last year but dropped to third with nine points (3-3 win-loss card). University of Santo Tomas went winless in six games. – GMANews.TV
