MANILA, Philippines – Now that the month-long standoff between the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is finally settled, the trip of five National Sports Associations (NSAs) will push through next month. This came after the PSC, with an agreement with the POC, announced it will fund the trip of five NSAs to the 1st Asian Martial Arts Games in Bangkok, Thailand from April 25 to May 3. Angping met with officials from wushu, taekwondo, muay thai, pencak silat and judo on Tuesday to hear their request for financial assistance amounting to P2.5 million for the participation in the Asian Martial Arts Games. Deputy Chief of Mission Tony Tamayo led the group asking for support since head of delegation and judo president David Carter is in Cebu along with foreign judo officials who are conducting seminars. The Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF), which also joined the meeting, will also get financial assistance despite skipping the Bangkok tournament. The PKF will use the money in a separate tournament since the association, along with the other five NSAs competing in the Asian Martial Arts Games, will use the trip as part of their preparation for the 25th Laos Southeast Asian Games in December. The Philippines is also competing in jujitsu, kurash and kickboxing but they have to look for separate funds since they are not part of the Laos SEA Games. – GMANews.TV
