Saipan, CNMI – Eduard “Landslide" Folayang, a mixed martial artist who hails from Baguio City, made the Philippines proud by fashioning out a convincing victory in his bout against hometown bet Jerome Norita in the Gorilla Warfare MMA “Battle Ready" over the weekend at the Royal Taga Hall of the Saipan World Resort. Folayang of Team Lakai became the only off-island fighter to win in the event. He won via technical knockout in just 52 seconds of the first round against Norita in their non- welterweight title fight, which served as the semi-main event, last Saturday. Folayang, who improved his record to 4-0, used his sleek and powerful punching ability to immediately bring Norita to the ground. The Filipino fighter pummeled Norita with left and right combinations to the head and body that resulted to the quick end of their bout. The 20-year old Norita of Marianas Elite fell to a 2-2 record. Folayang, the 25-year old Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) welterweight champion, thanked the crowd for their support. “Saipan is beautiful and the people too," Folayang said. URCC is the first professional mixed martial arts event based in the Philippines. It was his first time to fight outside his country. He was accompanied by the husband-and-wife tandem of MMA promoters Alvin and Bubbles Aguilar. Folayang, earned the nickname “Landslide" because of how he dominates his opponents, said he will immediately hit the gym and train for his next big fight back in Manila. He will be fighting in the Colt 45 URCC 14 “Agression" most likely against another opponent from Saipan. Aguilar said they would invite and negotiate for a welterweight (155lbs) fighter from the CNMI to go-up against Folayang in Manila. Folayang said he felt that he could end the fight quickly and immediately went for it. “In situations like that, you must not waste your time." Right after the referee signaled the end of the fight, Folayang took the Philippine flag and raised it while walking around the ring. “I was so happy. I was never intimidated because I knew there were many Filipinos out there watching." – GMANews.TV
