MANILA, Philippines - Angelo Que is making a return trip to another international championship after finishing second in the sectional qualifying tournament for the US Open held at the Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan. Que, who won the ICTSI Mount Malarayat Championship of the Mercedes-Benz Tour last week at the Mount Malarayat, shot rounds of 70 and 68 for 138, good for runner-up honors behind David Smail of New Zealand. But more important for Que, the reigning Philippine Open champion, his success in Japan earned him a shot at the United States’ second major event. Que made his major debut at last year’s British Open and he was thrilled to emulate compatriot Artemio Murakami, who had also qualified for the US Open, also in Japan, last year. “It feels great," said Que. “I was not able to practice on this course but the results were very good." Bae Sang-moon of Korea is joining Que and Smail for the US Open. A total of 29 players teed up in the qualifiers. Chinese star Liang Wen-chong, Asia’s number one in 2007, Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant, Korea’s Noh Seung-yul and Singaporean duo Lam Chih Bing and Mardan Mamat failed in their bids to earn a Top 5 finish. – GMANews.TV
