MANILA, Philippines - Filipino Antonio Lascuna lost out on the second playoff hole to finish runner-up to Taiwan’s Lu Chien-soon in the $60,000 Mercedes-Benz Masters Malaysia at the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur. Paired in the second to the last flight, Lu’s third shot blasted out from the trap that stopped to about 12 inches into the cup on the par-five 18th. He got the birdie then watched Lascuna secure a scrambling par for the win, which was worth $9,750. Lascuna, who notched his second runner-up finish in this year’s Mercedes-Benz Tour, earned $6,738 (about P323,000). He was also second in the Singha Pattaya Open. “It was a hell of a shot," Lascuna told GMANews.TV, referring to Lu’s blast. “Nonetheless, this will give me a boost to the next Mercedes-Benz tournament." Mars Pucay and Singaporean Lam Chih-bing wound up tied for third with a nine-under 279. Pucay had a one-under 71 while Lam carded a three-under 69 at Saujana’s Palm course. Each player got $3,420. Marvin Dumandan’s expected end-game collapse came to fruition again. The waterloo for the sophomore pro contributed heavily to a disappointing one-over 73 for solo fifth with a 280. It was good enough for $2,460. Malaysians Shaifubari Muda (68) and S. Siva Chandran (71) finished in joint sixth with 282, five strokes behind the winner. - GMANews.TV
