UAAP Jr. volleyball: UE opens title defense with easy win over NU

University of the East started its title-retention bid in the boy’s division by demolishing National University, 25-14, 25-9, 25-14, in the UAAP juniors volleyball tournament Saturday at the UE Gym in Manila. The Junior Warriors overcame a sloppy start to grab the win in just 50 minutes. In the girls division, defending two-time champion University of Santo Tomas crushed University of the Philippines-Integrated School, 25-5, 25-8, 25-15 to start their quest for a third straight crown on a bright note. In other boy’s matches, Season 71 runner-up Ateneo de Manila blanked UPIS, 25-17, 25-20, 25-20 while UST defeated La Salle Zobel, 25-13, 25-10, 25-12. La Salle-Zobel's girls team joined UST as opening day winners after a tight 25-18, 14-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-7 decision over event host UE. Meanwhile, the Junior Tigresses posted their second straight win on Sunday with a 25-6, 25-16, 25-14 triumoh over Ateneo Lady Eaglets. National University also barged into the win column by thrashing the Junior Archers, 25-6, 25-16, 25-14. It was La Salle's second striaght loss. - GMANews.TV
