Defending juniorsâ champion Ateneo and former womenâs titlist Adamson gun for the crown Tuesday in Game 2 of their respective UAAP Season 72 championship series at The Arena in San Juan.
The Blue Eaglets, who took the series opener, 80-73, behind the 33 points of Kiefer Ravena, seek to sweep rivals La Salle-Zobel and bring the hardware back to their Katipunan campus in the 4 p.m. match. Aside from Ravena, son of former PBA star Bong Ravena, Ateneo is expected to draw a big game from Al Bugarin, who contributed 10 points and 14 rebounds in the back-to-back-seeking squad's first win. Out to spoil the Eagletsâ party are the 2007 champs Junior Archers, who will be spearheaded by another second-generation player, Gwyne Capacio, son of FEU coach Glenn Capacio, and Nico Elorde, grandson of boxing great Gabriel âFlash" Elorde. The two logged double-double outputs in Game 1 with Elorde topscoring with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Capacio posting 15 points and 12 boards.
Like the Eaglets, the Adamson Lady Falcons aim to apply the broom on protagonist Far Eastern U at 2 p.m. Despite practicing on a halfcourt after tropical storm âOndoy" damaged their gym at their San Marcelino campus, the Adamson cagebelles took Game 1, 58-51, to move a win away from nailing their first title since 2005. And to better prepare for the mission this time, the Lady Falcons held their practice at the nearby Emilio Aguinaldo Gym in Manila on the eve of Game 2. - GMANews.TV
