Clavecilla leads aspirants to RP’s AsPac Seniors golf team
Many-time champion Wigberto âIggy" Clavecilla is again expected to dominate the qualifying tournament for the national team which will compete in the Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Championship set Dec. 10-12 in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. The elimination will be held on Oct. 20-22 at the Riviera Golf Clubâs Langer course in Silang, Cavite with the countryâs top golfing seniors expected to vie for the three RP team berths at stake. Tee off time is at 7:30 a.m. The 59-year-old Clavecilla, also one of the moving forces behind the Ateneo Golf Foundation, has won at least four times in the AsPac tilt â an event exclusively for players aged 55 and above. The 2009 AsPac Seniors will played at the Nexus Golf Resort in Sabah. Australia and New Zealand have dominated the annual event the last few years but the Philippines became the first Asian country to win the tournament in 2005 in China on a team built around Clavecilla, Richie Garcia, Rolly Viray, Francis Gaston, and Tommy Manotoc. Clavecilla completed a rare sweep by capturing the individual crown that year. - Adrian Flores, GMANews.TV
