HANOI – Muay artist Maricel Subang assured the Philippines of another silver medal as the country has established its best showing in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games with two days left before the competitions end. Subang demolished Chanthayong Songka of Laos, 4-1, in the semifinal round at the women's flyweight class held Thursday at the Rach Mieu Gymnasium in Ho Chi Mihn City to advance into Saturday’s finals. Two more muay fighers, lightweight Zaide Laruan and welterweight Jay Harold Gregorio, also went up against separate foes late Thursday night where a win would send them to the gold medal round. The players will have a rest day on Friday with Subang facing Thailand's Konnika Nuanboriboon, a 5-0 victor against Hong Kong’s Jenny So Ming Wai in the other semis bout, in Saturday’s finals. With Subang's assured silver and at least two more bronze medals from Laruan and Gregorio, the 23-member RP delegation already surpassed the one gold, two silver and three bronze medals the country won during the 2007 edition held in Macau, China. The country also competed in the inaugural staging of the biennial meet in 2005 in Bangkok, Thailand winning one gold and two bronze medals. The bowling team, meanwhile, remain within striking distance for a semis seat in the team event being held at the Superbowl Center in Ho Chi Mihn. The RP women's squad – composed of Ma. Lourdes Arles, Kimberly Lao, Krizziah Lyn Tabora and Liza Del Rosario – combined for 2413 pinfalls after the first three blocks to trail fourth placer Hong Kong by 13 pins (2426). The men's team of Biboy Rivera, Chester King, Raoul Miranda and Jonas Baltasar are in sixth place but needs to perform better in the final three blocks on Friday as they trail No. 4 Korea by 87 pins (2656). The top four teams in the men’s and women's events, after the combined scored in long and short oil, will advance into the semifinals to be played at the close of the event this Saturday. – GMANews.TV
