The Philippines scored a 13-8 win over Indonesia on Monday to clinch the silver in the 25th Southeast Asian Gamesâ water polo event at the National Sports Complex Swimming Pool in Vientaine, Laos.
"Our polo players did their best for the country and played with both their hearts and minds to win," said Philippine Aquatics Sports Association (PASA) president Mark Joseph. The Filipinos used a 5-1 scoring exchange in the final period to finally pull away from a tight match in the first three quarters. The first quarter ended in a 2-2 tie. The Filipinos enjoyed a 5-3 edge before the halftime break but the Indonesians scored four times in the third to move within one goal, 8-7. The Philippines finished the four-team round-robin tournament with a 2-1 record. They pulled-off a 6-4 decision against Thailand but suffered an 8-1 loss to Singapore, which is already assured of the gold. Singapore, which was playing Thailand as of posting time, has topped the water polo event in the SEA Games since 1965. â GMANews.TV
