Defending women’s champion La Salle clinched the solo lead with a 25-15, 25-17, 25-20 victory over erstwhile co-leader Adamson in the 72nd UAAP volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City. Jacqueline Alarca, last year’s Best Blocker, had 10 hits while Stephanie Mercado, Abigail Marano and Joanne Siy added eight points each as the Lady Archers chalked up their third straight triumph.

“Siguro hindi maganda yung nilaro ng Adamson. Hindi namin ine-expect na magiging ganito ka-off ang Adamson; parang halos lahat sila off e," said La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus, whose wards only took one hour and one minute to dispose of Adamson. The loss dropped the Lady Falcons to second spot with a 2-1 win-loss card, in a tie with University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo. The Tigresses hacked out a 25-18, 29-27, 25-21 win over Far Eastern U for their second straight win after opening the season with a setback to La Salle. Rookie sensation Maruja Banaticla topscored with 15 markers for the Tigresses, who foiled the 24-point production of Cherry Vivas and dealt the Lady Tams their second loss in three games.
