All good things must come to an end. Former three-time champion Far Eastern University ended Tuesday University of Santo Tomas’ almost two-year unbeaten streak in the 72nd UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Tamaraws brought down the mighty Tigers, 25-23, 21-25, 27-25, 25-20, to hand UST its first loss after three games but more importantly end the España-based spikers’ 21-game winning streak. UST’s winning run began during Game of the UAAP finals. The Tigers swept their way to the 2008 title to complete their back-to-back title bid. Rodolfo Labrador had 14 hits and three blocks to lead the Tamaraws to their third win in four starts. UST’s loss created a three-way logjam on top of the standings as they were joined by FEU and the University of the East Red Warriors. Nestor Molate, Joshua Alcarde, Ronald Tonquin and Kirk Biliran also scored in double figures for FEU with 16, 13, 12 and 10 each.
