POC hopes to end badminton's leadership row
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) is going the extra mile to settle the leadership dispute in the Philippine Badminton Association (PBA). Deadline to resolve the tug-of-war in the PBA leadership expires on Sunday but POC vice president Manny Lopez and chairman Monico Puentevella are still trying to get warring officials Amelita "Ming" Ramos and Errol Chan to a meeting on Monday. "I donât think there should be a deadline when it comes to unity thatâs why weâre still trying to patch things up between (Mrs. Ramos and Mr. Chan)," said Lopez. Former First Lady Ramos already said she is willing to meet with Chan anytime but the POC is still waiting for the confirmation from the former National team coach as of posting time. "If they (Ramos and Chan) are concerned about whatâs good for badminton we should all sit down together and talk this through," Lopez added. A few months back, a board resolution was passed to overthrow Ramos and replace her with Chan as the new badminton chief. Ramos, on the other hand, insisted she remains as the associationâs president citing sheâs the one being recognized by the Badminton World Federation, the sportsâ world governing body. After Ramos and Chan were elected PBA presidents in separate elections, the POC ordered for a unified election last May 9 to finally end the leadership dispute. Ramosâ group didnât participate in the said election although she was once again voted president in absentia. She didnât recognize the results of the May 9 elections which spawned deliberations on whoâs the legitimate PBA president until Chanâs group came out with a resolution to oust her. â GMANews.TV
