RTU Thunders cop NCRAA men’s volley crown

Rizal Technological University (RTU) defeated De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, 27-25, 13-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-13, to snare the 17th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s volleyball crown at the Olivarez College Sports Complex in Paranaque City. Aldasir Biting and Abdul Sabtal led the charge for the Blue Thunders who swept the best-of-three championship series. It was the Blue Thunders’ second title in three years and marked their return to glory after taking a leave of absence last season.

Biting and Sabtal conspired in the final set to pave the way for the win after dropping a closely-fought fourth set. “Kinargahan ng mga bata ang serves nila kaya nakuha namin," said RTU coach George Pascua. No double celebration There was no double celebration for RTU, though, as DLSU-Dasmariñas forced a do-or-die titular match after with a 26-24, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21 in Game 2 of their women's division final showdown. April Almaden and Regina Tungol carried the Lady Patriots to the victory to force a Game 3 set on Thursday, 10 a.m. at the Ugnayang La Salle gym. Almaden and Tungol came back in a big way after being absent in the series-opener because of their thesis defense. They were helped by Jennifer Manzano and Wensh Tiu with their attacking combination against RTU. - GMANews.TV
