Former San Beda Cub James Martinez helped the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors slay the Red Lions, giving UE the 2006 Collegiate Champions League (CCL) crown Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. Martinez, who was pivotal in the Cubs' three titles in the NCAA, posted 16 points, including two 3-pointers that pushed the UE Warriors to a 66-58 victory over the San Beda Red Lions. Martinez also intercepted the ball that paved the way for an easy Robert Labagala layup that stopped the Red Lions' rally in the final quarter. "We may have not won the UAAP title, but in this tournament we represented the UAAP community, kaya masarap din ang panalong ito," said UE coach Dindo Pumaren, who mentored the Warriros to their second CCL title in three years. - GMANews.TV
