Joseph Yeo has been an integral part of Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandezâs offensive rotation. But with the gutsy six-foot guard, nicknamed "The Ninja" being shipped to San Miguel, Fernandez will make do with his replacement â former University of the East standout Bonbon Custodio.

And with the Fiesta Cupâs first round of elimination already reaching its halfway mark, Fernandez is disappointed since he hasnât seen any progress on Custodio. "He has to prove his worth. He has to prove to everyone that the trade that happened was indeed worth it," said the 2006-07 Philippine Cup champion coach. Custodio, a 5-foot-11 guard, was acquired by the Realtors in exchange for Yeo due to financial situation. In his first season with San Miguel, Custodio has shown his potential despite limited playing time to earn the admiration of several teams, including the Realtors. Sta. Lucia, which is averaging less than 80 points per game, has been counting on defense to win but their efforts could not translate into Ws as the Realtors join Barako Energy Coffee at the lower half of the standings with a 1-4 card.

Bottom line, former MVP Kelly Williams, 2007-08 rookie of the year Ryan Reyes and import Anthony Johnson need help offensively and Custodio has yet to provide any of that in five games. "He plays good during practice but he hasnât shown anything of that in our games. We have already played five games and I havenât seen anything promising from him," said Fernandez. Prior to the trade, Yeo was the second-best local producer â next to Williams â for Sta. Lucia averaging 14.1 points per game. The trade somehow affected the offensive plays of the Realtors, who lost not just a potent scorer but somebody who can create a lot of things on the offensive end. Sta. Lucia board representative Buddy Encarnado, however, advised Fernandez â "to focus on what they have and move on."
