RP jr bet smashes way to Wimbledon 2nd round
Filipino netter Francis Casey Alcantara patiently worked on his game and defeated French Gregorie Barrere to advance into the second round of the 2010 Wimbledon Juniors Open being held at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London. Alcantara, playing in his final year as a junior netter, contended himself by precisely makinge his ball return en route to preserving a 6-1, 1-6, 11-9, marathon victory in the round-of-64. The Filipino netter, who is ranked 57th in the world, bested his counterpart whom he faced for the first time in his career. The win set up Alcantara in another interesting showdown with unseeded Facundo Arguello of Argentina. Arguello is rated No. 76, but has proven his worth after eliminating 15th seed Roberto Quiroz of Ecuador in three sets, 6-2, 0-6, 6-3. Alcantara is the last Filipino netter standing in this prestigious tournament after compatriot, RPâs top junior netter Jeson Patrombon, bowed out after losing his opening match against Frank Mitchell of the United States, 1-6, 5-7. Patrombon who saw his ranking dropped from 57th last week to 59th spot, will still compete in the boys doubles alongside Ahmed Triki of Tunisia. They will face a tough battle against second seed Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Mate Pavic of Croatia. Alcantara is partnered with Oliver Golding of Great Britain and they will open their campaign against Fil-Am Raymond Sarmiento and Dennis Kudla of US. Alcantara and Golding made it to the Finals in the Aegon Juniors and bowed to Juan Sebastian Gomez of Colombia and Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan in straight sets. - RCJ, GMANews.TV
