In the hopes of curbing fan-related violence during games this season, the UAAP board created a code of conduct for spectators hoping to create a safe and enjoyable experience of watching the games. The UAAP board acknowledged the need to create a code of conduct because of an increase in fan-related violence during the games. "The Board of Directors observed the escalating problem of violence during UAAP games, in particular, those involving players and fans," said the UAAP board in a statement. "With the overall objective of creating a safe, comfortable and enjoyable experience for all supporters/participants of UAAP games/events, the UAAP Board of Directors prepared this Fan Code of Conduct as a guide to expected behaviors." It was unclear how the league would implement the code but UAAP president Bro. Bernie Oca, FSC, said that they will coordinate with the venue managers in exectuting the rules. The code of conduct states that “fans who will commit disruptive behavior such as foul or abusive language or obscene behavior will be warned by the UAAP or sports facility personnel for first time offenders. Repeat offenders will be asked to leave the game venue. Fans will also be barred from carrying signs or wearing clothes with obscene and derogatory messages while spectators who will engage in fighting or throw objects on the court will immediately be ejected. Fans under the influence of alcohol or drugs will also be barred from entering the game venue. Smoking areas will also be designated in all game venues. Items deemed dangerous by the UAAP or venue personnel will be confiscated and can be retrieved after the game. Fans are also expected to sit in their respective seats based on their ticket numbers and must comply with the requests of sports facility personnel regarding facility operations and emergency response procedures. – JVP, GMANews.TV
