Adamson clobbers NU in UAAP women's beach volleyball
Reigning women's titlist Adamson notched its fourth straight win after the tandem of reigning MVP Angela Benting and Paulina Soriano clobbered NU's Mervic Mangui and Jennilyn Reyes, 21-8, 21-15, in the 73rd UAAP beach volleyball championships on Saturday at the UE Caloocan sand court. The Lady Falcons' latest win moved them closer of a Final Four berth while pushing the Lady Bulldogs in the brink of elimination after suffering their fourth consecutive defeat. Far Eastern University, meanwhile, upped its win-loss record to 3-4 after the duo of Shaira Gonzales and Shedd Dela Peña downed Pau Genido and Ana Maria Del Mundo of University of the Philippines, 21-14, 21-19. The loss sent UP in a four-way tie with La Salle, University of the East and University of Santo Tomas from third to sixth spots with similar 2-2 slates. La Salle's Charleen Cruz and Amanda Villanueva defeated the UE pair of Alexandra Cueva and Jessica Paron, 21-16, 21-19, while UST's Judy Ann Caballejo and Sarah Jane Gonzales outlasted Ateneo's Asia Urquico and Sharah So, 21-14, 19-21, 20-18. The Lady Eagles dropped to seventh spot with a 1-3 card. In the men's division, last year's runner-up FEU and Adamson remained tied for the lead (4-0) after dispatching separate opponents. The Tamaraws trounced Ateneo, 21-9, 21-17 while the Falcons tripped UE, 21-16, 21-19. Defending champion UST improved to a 3-1 mark for second place after a 21-16, 21-17 win over La Salle while UP downed NU, 29-27, 21-11. - JVP, GMANews.TV
