Lanao del Norte hosts first international motocross summit


Lanao del Norte was the proud host of the two-day International Motocross Summit from Dec. 11 to 12 at the sprawling 72-hectare Mindanao Civic Center in Sagadan, Tubod. Provincial governor Mohammad Khalid Dimaporo welcomed the 300 motocross riders from all over the country, as well as four team members from the American Motocross Association, New Zealand and Indonesian. This is the second straight year Lanao del Norte hosted the event, which was held in cooperation with the SEL-J Motor Sports Incorporated. Gov. Dimaporo said he wants the province to become the “motocross capital of the Philippines." Dimaporo challenged the young motocross enthusiasts to consider motocross as one of the major sporting events of a lifetime. "I was informed that somewhere in Asia, particularly in Southern Philippines, an international motocross competition will be held in Lanao del Norte," said Jake Lance, one of the foreign riders vying in the competition. "And it's a beautifull place with beautifull people. I intend to be back in next year's competition," he added. Among the teams which saw action were Quick Flight, Team Pacquiao, KTM Access Plus., Therasil SEL-J, and the Team Sultan Naga Dimaporo (SND). Riders competed in different categories — Intermediate, 65 cc & 85cc, novice Prod B, beginner local open enduro, ladies, beginner open production, 50cc, executive A, novice open production, underbone, executive B Veterans, novice local open enduro, executive C, and pro-lites. - KY, RCJ, GMANews.TV
