UAAP volleyball: FEU, UST rip rivals
Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas breezed past their respective rivals Wednesday in the UAAP menâs volleyball tournament at The Arena. The unbeaten Tamaraws whipped National University, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19, for their 13th straight victory while the defending champion Tigers dumped University of the East, 25-20, 25-11, 25-16. Nestor Molate, Rodolfo Labrador and Pitrus De Ocampo tallied 11 markers each for the Tamaraws, who moved a win away from sweeping the elimination round. Henry James Pecana and John Paul Torres scored 12 points apiece for the Tigers, who improved to a 12-1 record. Homer Lauresta finished with 12 points to lead the Warriors. The Tamaraws and the Tigers face one another on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan before entering the Final Four. A win by FEU will assure the Morayta-based squad of the top seed spot in the semifinals. Ateneo faces Adamson on Saturday, 9 a.m., while UE takes on NU in the second game at 11 a.m. to wrap up their respective seasons. Third-placer La Salle (8-5) and fourth-ranked University of the Philippines (7-6) are already assured of Final Four berths. - KY, RCJ, GMA News
