Far Eastern University (FEU) and La Salle cemented their hold of the titles following victories at the final day of the UAAP chess tournament at the FEU Techonology Building in Manila. The Tamaraws officially claimed their fifth consecutive UAAP men's chess crown via a 2.5-1.5 win over University of Santo Tomas (UST) on Sunday. The Lady Archers followed suit following a 2.5-1.5 victory over UST at the end of the 14-round tournament. Sheider Nebato claimed his second Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy but had to settle for a draw. His teammates Lennon Sagados and Antonio Chavez also drew with their matches. Only Kevin Mirano earned a win at Board 4 when he defeated UST’' John Zacarias, which was enough for the Tamaraws to take the win. FEU completed the tournament with a total of 45.5 points, nine points ahead of UST (36.5) and 15.5 points in front of Adamson (30). Rookie Jodilyn Fronda captured the women's MVP trophy as the Lady Archers finished with 45 points followed by UST (37.5) and FEU (31.5). In the juniors side, Rookie MVP Jerald Docena led FEU-Nicanor Reyes Educational Foundation to the title snapping Adamson's three-year reign. - JVP, GMA News
