Strong start helps Texters cruise to easy win vs Beermen

Talk 'N Text turned its rematch against San Miguel into a one-sided affair, scoring a 117-93 rout on Friday to grab the solo lead in the PBA Commissioner's Cup at the Araneta Coliseum. The Tropang Texters jumped the gun on the Beermen, torching their opponents for 33 points in the opening period. They settled for a 13-point lead at the break (56-43) and scored the first seven points of the third period, with Ryan Reyes capping the run with a three-pointer to further widen their lead. The 24-point blowout win dampened what was supposed to be the first meeting between the two teams that tangled for the Philippine Cup Finals won by Talk 'N Text. Import Paul Harris topscored with 31 points for the Tropang Texters, who claimed their sixth straight win for a league-leading 6-1 record. Ali Peek added 17 and Harvey Carey had a double-double of 16 points (conference-high) and 12 rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. The Tropang Texters enjoyed their biggest lead at 117-85 on an Emerson Oreta three-pointer in the final two minutes of play. San Miguel lost for the fifth straight game and remained at the cellar (1-6), looking every bit to become the first team likely to be eliminated in the import-laden tournament. David Young still suited up as San Miguel's reinforcement as Dar Tucker, the team's choice as a replacement import, still has a live contract with the NBA Developmental League. Young paced the woeful Beermen with 35 points. - JVP, KY, GMA News
